Our Story
After retiring from a successful career in the U.S. Air Force, William (Bill) Eva and his wife Carol returned to the family farm located at the end of Longview Road in Hancock NH. His father had previously tended a heard of dairy cows on the farm until disease had abruptly wiped them out. Like many farmers in the area Bill’s father, William James Eva (Jim), would take advantage of the relatively short sugaring season to help supplement income on the farm. Bill learned quite a bit about making syrup and becoming a steward of the land from his father which would prove very valuable later on.
Shortly after his retirement Bill enrolled at the University of New Hampshire to study forestry. This only further perpetuated his love of being in the woods. In July of 1982 Bill and Carol officially registered the company name: Longview Forest Products with the state of New Hampshire. Bill’s seemingly endless base of knowledge and skill allowed us to offer a wide range of products and services related to forestry and sugaring.
In addition to his passion for working the land, Bill was also actively involved in the creation of legislation and policy surrounding maple production in the state through his work with the New Hampshire Maple Producers Association. Bill Also served as the NH Delegate for the International Maple Producers Institute, and a Representative to the North American Maple Syrup Council.
The traditions and knowledge gained throughout the years would continue to be passed down to future generations. In 1998 Bill began working closely with his son in-law, Mark. Over the next two decades Bill and Mark expanded the products that they offered to include not only the sale of maple syrup but also the sale of sugaring supplies, lumber, logging services, cord wood, site work and “pick your own” Christmas trees.
In 2012 we were happy to introduce the next generation of maple producer. Now 3 kids strong, the 5th generation represents our future. We are excited to know that, if they choose, our values and the farms legacy will continue.
Bill passed unexpectedly in November of 2018 at the age of 82. His contributions to the field, the business and his community continue to be felt today. After his passing, Bill’s son in-law, Mark, took over the primary operations of the company.
